There
is a jewel, newly available to Illinois Masons, that commemorates
the support a son lends to his father in later years—The Lewis
Jewel. Pictured at right, this jewel is designed to be worn by the
son of a Master Mason. The criteria to wear the Lewis Jewel
is that, at the time of the
son’s
Initiation, his father was a Master
Mason in good standing. Should the Master Mason’s father be deceased
at the time of the request, his son will be given permission to wear
the jewel provided his father was in good standing at the time of
his death. Another important aspect of eligibility to wear the jewel
is that father and son do not have to be members of the same Lodge
or even the same Grand Lodge. According to MWGM Richard Swaney,
authorization to wear the jewel will be given to each Mason by the
office of the Grand Secretary.

There is a rich history behind the
Lewis that you can read in the Rough
Ashlars section of our website. The article is an excerpt from
an old Short Talk Bulletin entitled LEWIS AND LOUVETEAU and is
referenced as Lewis. |
